UPDATED 3/13/2024
The following health and respiratory illness practices are based on current CDC guidelines. They are revised based on infection levels and best practices.
IF YOU DO NOT FEEL WELL, PLEASE DO NOT COME TO AN IN-PERSON DINNER OR PROGRAM.
AT THIS TIME, MASKS ARE NOT REQUIRED WHEN IN THE SWC BUILDING.
Masks as well as COVID-19 test kits are available at SWC.
We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE respiratory illness vaccinations and boosters (COVID-19, Flu, RSV, etc.) for anyone eligible for them.
To prevent respiratory infections:
- You should get vaccinated
- Wash hands frequently
- take steps for cleaner air by opening windows to let in fresh air
- wear a mask, and practice social distancing (keep at least 6-feet of space between you and others).
If you are feeling sick, you should stay home and away from others until at least 24 hours after both your symptoms are getting better overall, and you have not had a fever (without using fever-reducing medications like Tylenol, Advil, etc.).
When you are feeling better overall and have not had a fever, you should follow 5 days of additional precautions after the “stay home” period. These steps include: letting fresh air into your home, wearing a well-fitting mask (N95 or KN95 are best), and practicing social distancing (keep about 6-feet of space between you and others), when possible. Getting tested for respiratory viruses, if you are able, can lower the chance of spreading respiratory viruses to others.
The total number of days of precautions when you are ill, (the period of staying home and away from others plus 5 days of additional precautions), usually covers the period during which most people are still infectious. Please keep in mind: it can take longer for people with weakened immune systems to recover from respiratory viruses. This includes a possible longer time that you can spread a respiratory virus to others. Since many of our members are immunocompromised, be aware of this when choosing precautions and deciding when to return to normal activities after the period of time at home sick.
Please call SWC (412-683-4477) with any question, or to confirm when you may return to SWC functions after being ill. If your symptoms are not improving you need to continue to isolate. If you experience severe illness or have a weakened immune system we request you consult your doctor before returning to SWC functions.
